Living with Pets and Allergies

December 21, 2017

There is nothing quite like coming home to a wagging tail and a smiling face after a long day. But it isn’t so enjoyable when that furry, four-legged welcome makes your eyes watery and itchy. When you’re allergic to your pet, it can be difficult to give them the attention and love they deserve – but it doesn’t have to be!

If allergy shots/pills don’t do the trick, there are multiple things you can do to try and reduce the allergens in your home:

NO PET ZONE
Keep your pet out of specific rooms you frequent to cut down on the allergens in the air which will make that room a safe haven for when your symptoms flare up.

HEPA FILTER
Use a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter to remove dander from the air in the rooms your pet roams freely.

CLEAN THE HOUSE (AND YOUR HANDS!) OFTEN
Vacuum (use the attachments for hard to reach places), dust, replace furnace filters and wash bedding regularly to cut down on dander. Even the simple act of washing your hands and face can help.

BATHE YOUR FURRY FRIEND
Give your pet a bath regularly to help reduce dander.
