Simpson Housing is founded by Harold Simpson, who develops the company’s first properties in Colorado. Over the following decades, the portfolio expands into Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Washington.
The State of Michigan Retirement System (SMRS) becomes Simpson’s first institutional investor, acquiring majority interest in the company.
Simpson accelerates in-house development and construction through its construction affiliate Great West Contractors (GWC), completing 37 properties in 8 states.
Simpson begins its joint venture development program. Since then, the company has completed 42 projects in partnership with 13 joint venture partners, a strategy that continues today.
Simpson earns its first CEL & Associates A List Award for Excellence in Customer Service.
Simpson forms a joint venture with Nuveen / TIAA General Account, with the acquisition of 12 assets.
The Nuveen partnership expands to include management of a 9-asset USCMF portfolio, which has since grown to 23 assets.
Simpson recapitalizes a 13-asset portfolio with PFA, through a newly formed investment vehicle.
