Ryan's Recycling Event at 2125 Yale

June 26, 2019

What’s better than brunch and prizes? How about having brunch with a 9-year-old who has won over 20 awards including CNN’s Young Wonder Award, which he won back in 2017 at the age of 8.

FILL ME IN
Ryan’s Recycling Company was started in 2012 by then 3-year-old Ryan, after he visited a local recycling center with his dad. Ryan started his company by simply giving his neighbors empty bags to fill with recyclables with hopes of keeping cans and bottles from reaching the ocean. Word of Ryan’s efforts to protect the ocean’s environment traveled to friends, families and co-workers of his neighbors which kick started his company.

Ryan’s story went viral in 2016 and he has been featured on multiple TV and radio shows, including Ellen DeGeneres. He is as inspiring as his story is and according to his website, now has customers all over Orange County, California.

WOW. BUT DIDN’T YOU SAY SOMETHING ABOUT BRUNCH?
One of Simpson’s Houston communities was lucky enough to host a brunch on Ryan’s Message in a Bottle Tour back in May. At the event, Ryan came to collect recyclables from residents at 2125 Yale and for each recyclable item that residents brought in, they received a raffle ticket to win prizes such as Astros tickets, gift cards and Bluetooth speakers. Scroll through the event photos above for a recap of the event.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
You can schedule a pick up if you live in Orange County, California or you can buy a hat or shirt to help spread Ryan’s message from wherever you are. All proceeds go to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach, California.
