Across the country, event organizers are expecting some of the biggest turnouts for Memorial Day weekend in the last several years. You can celebrate the unofficial beginning of summer by seeing anything from a patriotic drone show to running in a 5k that supports veterans. Bellow are some of the biggest events this weekend nationwide.
Where better to celebrate Memorial Day this weekend than the nation’s capital? If you are around the DC area, you should check out the National Memorial Day Parade. Returning for the first time since 2019, the nation's biggest Memorial Day parade will kick off at 1pm. Anthony Anderson and Joe Buck are set to host with musical performances by Jimmie Allen and The Eli Young Band.
Music City kicks of the festivities this weekend with the 22nd annual Memorial Day Dash. Starting at 7:30am the 5k takes runners through Fort Negley Historic Park with beautiful views of Nashville’s cityscape. There will be prizes for contestants with the most patriotic costumes. The race costs $40 to sign up and all proceeds will go to the Nashville City Cemetery Association, which will use the money to restore veterans’ tombstones that are in disrepair.
If you are in the Houston area and looking for a great free way to enjoy the holidays, The Woodlands annual Memorial Day event is a great option. The festival, begins at 5pm with fireworks starting at 8:55pm, features live music, children’s activities, and more entertainment at Town Green Park. The evening concludes with one of the largest fireworks shows in Houston and is also choregraphed to a patriotic soundtrack.
After the unexpected snow this past weekend, Denver residents can look forward to better weather and a host of activities for Memorial Day weekend. Perhaps the largest event of the weekend will be the Denver Arts Festival. From May 28-29th, the festival will showcase some of Colorado and the nation's best artists. The event will also include live music, wine tasting, food trucks, and more. More than 50,000 people are expected to attend and admission is free.
Los Angeles and surrounding counties have a plethora of events this Memorial Day weekend. On Monday, the Battleship Iowa is hosting a Memorial Day Remembrance event at the Port of Los Angeles. From 10am to 3pm there will be a patriotic tribute by San Pedro City Ballet, beer tasting, military vehicles on display, and a veteran-owned business exhibition. If you are looking to venture a little further out of LA County Big Bear will be hosting a BBQ cookoff and a state-of-the-art drone light show.
