Simpson Housing is excited about our new partnership with Move For Hunger, a nationwide organization that collects food donations from people who are moving in an effort to reduce food insecurity and food waste.

 

Did You Know?

• 1 in 8 Americans relocate each year.
• 1 in 8 Americans are food insecure.
• 40% of all food produced in the US each year is lost or will go to waste.

 

Our partnership with Move For Hunger will help lower these statistics by giving our residents an easy option to donate their food when they move or during a community-organized food drive. Our first scheduled Food Drive will be November 14-27th and residents will receive more details closer to the event.

 

As of the end of June 2022, Move For Hunger has:

• Delivered 1.6 million meals to food banks and pantries.
• Coordinated and planned 357 food drives.
• Picked up 215,550 pounds of fresh food from farms, farmers markets and more for distribution to those in need!
• Team Move For Hunger has provided 112,000 meals.
• Provided 154,688 meals at in-person events.

 

How It Works:

1. When one of our residents provides notice, they can reach out to our community team for a Move For Hunger program letter and food collection bag.
2. Residents can place any unneeded non-perishable food items in the collection bag and take it to the on-site donation station.
3. When the community’s donation station has 5-10 bags of food, Move For Hunger will arrange for a local transportation partner to pick up the food and donate to a local food bank.
