2023 World Car Free Day

September 18, 2023

Simpson Housing is committed to our Core Values and World Car Free Day is the perfect way to practice the specific value of Sustainability. Not only are we committed to practicing this as a company, but we promote Environmental Social Governance (ESG) efforts among our residents.

This week, help Simpson celebrate World Car Free Day to promote a more sustainable lifestyle and encourage more eco-friendly actions. Mark your calendars as World Car Free Day is Friday, September 22!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

It’s as easy as working from home, carpooling or taking public transportation! Below are a few ways in which to get around town other than a car:

  • Work from home
  • Walk
  • Bike
  • Light rail / Bus
  • Rideshare

Better yet, challenge yourself to shop or dine locally and take the day off from using public or private transportation altogether.

CELEBRATE WITH SIMPSON

Simpson’s communities are planning on-site events to celebrate World Car Free Day with our residents and enable a car free day. Below are a few of the events that are planned. How will you celebrate?

  • Providing breakfast / coffee on-the-go.
  • Providing public transit tickets and information.
  • Providing bike repair kits.
  • Offering bike maintenance workshop.
  • Coordinating food trucks to be onsite to encourage residents from ordering delivery or driving to a restaurant.
  • Offering on-site fitness classes so residents don’t need to drive to the gym.
  • Coordinating pop-up retail vendors onsite so residents don’t need to drive to go shopping.
  • Coordinating on-site dog groomers to encourage residents to treat Fido onsite instead of driving to the groomers.

Are you a resident of a Simpson community? Be sure to check out your community’s social media pages to find out what your community team is planning.

ABOUT WORLD CAR FREE DAY

According to Awareness Days.com, World Car Free Day dates back to the 1973 oil crisis. The holiday is celebrated around the globe and has evolved over the years. But the purpose has remained the same, promoting a healthier environment and reducing the number of cars on the streets.

Happy Trails!
