During the summer, the use of energy in your home increases greatly. Everyone is trying to stay cool and comfortable and it seems impossible to keep the usage down. Follow these tips to help keep your home cooler and to save energy this summer.
CLOSE THE CURTAINS
Keeping your curtains closed during the day is an easy way to keep your home cooler and cut back on running your air conditioning.
TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING
Turning off your air conditioning while you are not home for a couple hours is a great way to save energy. If the temperature is cool enough outside, keep the windows open at night and close them back up during the day instead of running your air conditioning.
FLIP THE FAN
Running the fan is an efficient way to cool down your home. Make sure your fan is spinning counterclockwise. When the fan rotates counterclockwise it pushes the cold air to the ground, effectively making the room feel considerably cooler.
UNPLUG THE ELECTRONICS
Keeping electronics plugged in can waste energy so if you are not using it, unplug it. This is a quick way to save some energy throughout the day.
WAIT TO USE YOUR APPLIANCES
Turning on your oven, dishwasher or dryer is going to increase the temperature of your home greatly. Try to avoid using these during the hottest time of the day (12-5pm). Using them at night instead will help keep your home cooler.
